چکیده

We present a preliminary study of the dependence of the fractal features of the soil motion due to seismic noise on the near-surface geology in the frequency range from 1 Hz to ∼ 40 Hz. In detail, we have investigated the 3-d average squared soil displacement 〈r〉 and the distribution function of the displacement fluctuations in different geological sites. The anomalous scaling of the average squared displacement 〈r(τ)〉 ∼ τ with 1.5 < α < 2, and the Gaussian shape of the fluctuation distribution function suggest that the soil motion under the influence of seismic noise is consistent with a persistent fractional brownian motion (fBm) characterized by a Hurst exponent H > 1/2. Moreover, a dependence of the α exponent on the different geological features of the sites has been found, and it is discussed.

Using a novel method for random noise reduction of seismic records

Random or incoherent noise is an important type of seismic noise, which can seriously affect the quality of the data. Therefore, decreasing the level of this category of noises is necessary for increasing the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of seismic records. Random noises and other events overlap each other in time domain, which makes it difficult to attenuate them from seismic records. In this r...

Application of 3D-Seismic Data in Detecting Buried Karsts in Asmari Formation: An Example from Kupal Oil Field, Southwest Iran

Detecting karstification processes in hydrocarbon carbonate reservoirs is important because of their porosity, permeability and also the risk associated with their drilling. A very useful technique to locate buried karsts is 3D seismic. In this research, seismic frequency decomposition (spectral decomposition) and seismic inversion techniques used to identify these sub-surface diagenetic featur...

Application of Single-Frequency Time-Space Filtering Technique for Seismic Ground Roll and Random Noise Attenuation

Time-frequency filtering is an acceptable technique for attenuating noise in 2-D (time-space) and 3-D (time-space-space) reflection seismic data. The common approach for this purpose is transforming each seismic signal from 1-D time domain to a 2-D time-frequency domain and then denoising the signal by a designed filter and finally transforming back the filtered signal to original time domain. ...

How to Teach a Neural Network to Identify Seismic Interference

SUMMARY In this paper, we approach automated seismic interference (SI) identification for towed-streamer acquisitions in a new way. We show how to teach a neural network to identify SI based on features the human brain would use for such a task. This includes describing geophysical attributes such as amplitudes and wavefield propagation directions with instantaneous and multishot statistical me...

Application of Fuzzy Logic in Seismic Zonation

Traditional statistical methods for seismic zonation require information from many subjects, such as regional geology and neotectonics, seismicity, stress field, damage analysis of historic earthquakes, geophysics and others. These subjects are weighted differently during statistics. In fact, the information from most of these subjects is more like fuzzy sets, ie, it is a sort of estimation rat...
